A sestina is a 39 line poem that is made up of six sextets (six stanzas of sex lines each) followed by a three line envoi. To construct it, we start with six words. The first stanza is constructed such that each line ends with these six words in some order, say 1,2,3,4,5, and 6.

For the second stanza, we follow the following pattern of generating the last words for the lines.

So that the next stanza follows the pattern 6-1-5-2-4-3 and so on as illustrated below:
