This began as a rant in my head about life choices and being a slave to dopamine. That lead me to work on the doodle. Then I asked myself: Can I make a film from this single picture?
I answered yes and began working on putting the film together.
I had a lot of fun with this project. It is one of the longer things I have worked on. The completed video is on YouTube at: https://youtu.be/iwcDpxads44
The transcript for the poem follows below:
this dope, it’s mine
it’s all I was given to feel fine.
it pumps through parts of me
I can’t control but call mine.
I like to think I own something,
that I was given something I’ll always have.
but life becomes a distraction for life.
there is no hierarchy in the pursuit of numbness:
meditators, moneygetters, medicinators, merrymakers —
they all the same.
I etch this quiet into my mind,
it’s like a heart you can’t beat.
