the tendrils of a thousand sunsets
land on my feet.
swollen oxidized crabs
scream in scratches.
this air
pumps me up like balloon.
breath-holding becomes breath-taking
as heartbeats split into murmurations
of joy
~
so slow these red houses
baking in august sun.
so full of music these window frames
of lacquered redwood.
at night, they waft fish and cinnamon
to bait hunger.
yes, dreams are insatiable.
~
the fish nets arched like whale belly
filter the air into life and suffocation.
sun rises with a
boom!
fires go off on rooftops plied
with leaning terracotta tiles.
wind gets to be more here,
and birds bird-ier.

you know something is grand when it grants
you a self you didn't know
you could possess without dilution.
