As I turned around the corner

the young man teaching

the kid on the streets,

became me.

and I became the kid.

The cop who

chased them both

was me as well.

I was in the baton that

hit the young man

on his forehead, and

the blood that gushed out was me too.

The ring of onlookers

was a collective

consciousness, called

the ambulance stuck

in traffic was me

and the wail of the dying

man was me.

But I simply

looked the other way and

went on with my work,

work, that too was me.
